Smarter workflows for a more agile pharma packaging process
Hapa’s digital solutions streamline artwork preparation and inspection – driving speed, accuracy, and compliance
Pharmaceutical companies are under increasing pressure to modernize their packaging processes. The growing demand for individualized medicine, smaller batch sizes, and seamless integration with digital systems is driving a shift toward smarter, more automated workflows.
Digital tools transforming pharma packaging workflows
Hapa is responding to this shift with a new generation of software solutions for artwork preparation and print inspection – setting new standards in pharmaceutical packaging. Tools such as Make Ready allow users to generate optimized, customizable print templates from existing artwork files without the need for re-validation and with just a few clicks. The integrated Vision Secure camera system further enhances the process by automatically detecting misprints, significantly reducing setup times and increasing reliability.
“Traditional printing solutions are reaching their limits and will struggle to meet future requirements,” explains Alfred Mast, Software Sales Consultant for Pharma at Hapa. In response, Hapa has introduced a modular software suite that redefines on-demand printing and positions pharmaceutical manufacturers for the future.
Simple, convenient, and user-friendly
Alfred Mast highlights the advantages of this new approach: “The key innovation is the ability to prepare existing artwork for immediate use in fully automated processes with our Make Ready software. It works with already validated PDF files, converting them into print-ready templates without the need for graphic design support or re-validation. This makes the system extremely convenient, time-saving, and cost-effective.”
The process begins with importing the artwork into a user-friendly application. From there, placeholders and codes can be inserted and defined based on the pre-validated PDF. The resulting format can be imported by the printer or integrated into automated digital workflows such as ERP systems or line controllers.
State-of-the-art visual inspection
Hapa also convinces in terms of its error diagnosis and high reliability of print results. This is provided by integrated vision inspection. Vision Secure receives all the information required to inspect the printed artwork fully automated from Make Ready. This eliminates the time-consuming and tedious process of teaching the camera system. The PDF tells the camera exactly what the correct print image should look like, so the machine can be stopped in case of mismatches. This also reduces the risk of rejects to a minimum. Although misprints can still occur, thanks to optical control they are reliably detected and sorted out.
Developed with industry partners, built for the future
Hapa’s software solutions were developed in close collaboration with long-standing pharmaceutical partners and have already proven successful in real-world applications. By enabling seamless integration with existing digital infrastructure – such as ERP systems, line controllers, and serialization platforms – they support a fully connected packaging workflow. This not only reduces manual effort and setup times but also enhances traceability, compliance, and responsiveness across the entire production line.
As pharmaceutical companies continue to navigate increasing complexity and regulatory demands, embracing digital, integrated workflows is no longer optional, it’s essential. With its modular and future-ready software suite, Hapa empowers manufacturers to stay ahead of the curve and unlock new levels of efficiency, flexibility, and quality.
